Scorchers get eliminated by Royals at first hurdle. 5th January 2020
Surrey Scorchers were eliminated from the BBL Trophy at the hands of current holders London City Royals after the visitors completed a 102-83 victory at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday.
The Royals- playing their first game since mid-December- were indebted to an outstanding performance from Matt Scott who finished with 42 points, 16 rebounds and five assists.
The opening period belonged to the visitors who went into the buzzer with a 14-point advantage at 26-12.
With three minutes left in the second quarter Royals had stretched their lead to 18 points, by the end of the quarter the London outfit held a 15-point advantage to go into the break 49-34.
By the end of the third quarter Scorchers had cut the deficit to ten points at 65-55 after at one stage keeping the score down to just a five point game.
Despite two early three-point shots from Skyler White and Caylin Raftopoulos, London continued to score heavily and with only a minute left had built up a 22 point lead, which they never relinquished.
For Scorchers , Lovell Cook top scored with 19 points and 10 rebounds, with White chipping in with 18 and 8 rebounds.
Aside from Scott’s outstanding effort, Ed Lucas contributed with 14 points and four assists.
