Scorchers fall to Wolves in Worcester

A final quarter surge from Worcester Wolves was enough to see of a spirited Surrey Scorchers side on Friday evening in Worcester.
Scorchers were on the front foot straight from the off and raced into an eight-point lead early on in the game. Wolves fought back and went on a run of 15 unanswered points to take a seven point lead, led by Brandon Anderson who ended the quarter with 11 points.
The visitors forced their way back into the opening ten minutes to draw level at the buzzer 22-22.
Scorchers had the better of the second period and at one point held a comfortable 11-point advantage. The Surrey side were effective in the opening two periods from the point, scoring 32 points, with Scorchers heading into the interval with a nine-point cushion at 45-36.
The home side who was playing their third match in the course of the last five days, never looked fatigued. Worcester hit Scorchers hard straight from the opening shot and quickly built up a 16-6 points difference.
By the end of the third quarter Wolves had clawed back the deficit of the second period and went into the final quarter trailing by just a single point.
A big fourth quarter from Worcester was enough to get them over the line, as they eventually defeated Scorchers 84-77 after winning the final period 23-15.
Scorchers excellent hitting from the paint in the opening half let them down in the final two quarters after scoring only 14 points out of 32.
Four of Worcester’s starting five hit double figures on the night with Anderson top scoring with 22 points and former Scorcher Jordan Williams 18 points and 11 rebounds. For Scorchers, only two players managed double points with the impressive Ryan Richards scoring 21 points and youngster Cameron Hildreth 11 points.
