Scorchers add two new players ahead of the new BBL season. 14th August 2019
With the BBL Season starting in a few weeks, Surrey Scorchers have made two signings ahead of the September start.
American Guard Adrian Kuyinu has agreed to join the Surrey based outfit. The 27-year-old Texan also holds a British passport, and was one of the stars of the Leeds Force roster in the second half of the 2017-18 season,
Kuyinu, spent 2018 with Arcos Albacete in Spain’s LEB Plata. The Texan becomes Coach Creon Raftopolous’s second signing after 6ft 5-inch American Guard Chavares ‘Chip’ Flanigan recently signed for the club.
Then 23-year-old from Illinois graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with All-GLIAC honours and was named male athlete of the year at the 2019 UW-P Rangers awards. Earlier this year Chip received the 2019 Male Standout Performance Award for a game in which he recorded 32 points alongside four rebounds, Two steals and blocks and two assists.
Coach Creon commented, “Our intention was always going to be to sign a big combo guard if we were unable to bring Quincy Taylor back. Chavares knows how to win and is comfortable playing all guard positions as well as small forward”.
Coach Creon was also very pleased to sign Kuyina.” We are all very excited to have Adrian join us for the upcoming season as he has the ability to play the point guard and shooting guard positions. His strength and ability to defend multiple positions helps us improve in a defensive area that hurt us last season”.
