Flames four goal late fightback not enough to oust Panthers. 20th December 2019
Guildford Flames completed a 5-3 victory over the Nottingham Panthers on the night but went out of the Challenge Cup at the quarter final stage 8-6 on aggregate.
Flames opened the scoring when Jesse Craige netted after the ten-minute mark for the only scoring in the opening period.
Dylan Malmquist levelled for Panthers, with Mark Matheson scoring on the powerplay at 27:09 to widen the gap to five goals for the visitors.
Just 81 seconds into the third period Kruise Reddick grabbed a goal back for the hosts before he struck again eight minutes later to spark a Flames fightback which continued with further goals from Calle Ackered and Craige’s second of the night with seconds remaining. Unfortunately for the hosts it proved to be to much of a mountain to climb as Panthers progressed to the semi-final stage of the competition.
