Flames edged out by Blaze at the Spectrum. 22nd January 2020
Guildford Flames suffered their first loss this season against the Coventry Blaze, after going down to a 3-2 overtime loss.
Coventry opened the scoring at 14:10 when Evan Bloodoff netted, with the only goal in the opening period.
Less than three minutes into the second period Flames drew level through Calle Ackered and then survived a video review on a Blaze goal, as the clubs went into the third period all square.
After 51:06 T.J. Foster gave Flames the lead which looked like securing both points for the hosts before Andrew Johnston struck on 56:29 with a rebound to send the game into overtime.
After 2.43 of overtime Blaze grabbed the extra point, thanks to a Justin Hache effort.
Flames Coach Paul Dixon said after the game “It’s tough to lose ones where you felt you have had enough of the play to win, and you were in the lead with just minutes remaining”. “We are in a real table race with Coventry and you don’t like to let any of those important head to head points slip away”.
