Surrey Scorchers made it ten home wins in a row, after recording a dramatic 82-81 victory over the Newcastle Eagles at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday.

Tony Hicks secured two free-throws with less than three seconds on the clock to secure the narrowest of victories in front of the Free Sports cameras.

In a tight opening quarter the hosts, who were without the injured Jordan Williams, just shaded the honours, going into the buzzer with a two point advantage at 26-24, thanks to a three-point shot from Caylin Raftopoulos with 30 seconds to go.

Eagles hit back in the second quarter as Amarjit Basi and Darius Defoe scored consistently. The visitors held a narrow four point cushion at half-time to lead 47-42.

The visitors went from strength-to-strength in the third quarter, at one time stretching their lead to 13 points, thanks to an 11 point run. Scorchers hit back strongly, closing out the quarter with a 17-2 run to hold a three point lead going into the final quarter.

In a frantic ten minutes, with the game ebbing and flowing, it was the visitors who led 79-76 with 1.46 to go. With 38 seconds remaining the visitors looked to have secured the points as they led 81-78. But with seconds remaining Hicks was fouled and calmly slotted two out of two free throws to claim a dramatic win for Scorchers.
