Crooks completes an evening to remember for Flames. 17th February 2020
It was a night to remember for Guildford Flames Jamie Crooks, who ended up with five goals on the night as Flames defeated the visiting Cardiff Devils 6-3 at the Spectrum on Sunday.
Crooks fired in a first period hat trick, before adding two more goals in the third period to cap an outstanding display on the night.
Just before the five-minute mark, Crooks took a faceoff win and his deflected shot beat Ben Bowns in the Devils net. Crooks doubled Flames lead when he netted at 13:29 before claiming his hat trick at 17: 53 with a one timer.
With 99 seconds into the second period Devils hit back through Blair Riley on 21:39. A shade under four minutes later Cardiff had cut the deficit to just a single goal when Joey Martin scored.
After 43:20, Flames restored their two-goal cushion with a TJ Foster goal, only for Devils to pull a goal back through Evan Mosey in the 47th minute. Flames found themselves in penalty trouble in the final 12 minutes having to kill a Corbin Baldwin minor. Shortly afterwards the hosts on the powerplay made it 5-3 when Crooks bagged his fifth of the night.
With 30 seconds remaining and the Cardiff net empty, it was fitting that Crooks had the last word, shooting into an empty net to seal victory for Flames and an evening he will never forget.
